Beat the Clock

AO: The Hooch

When: 04/13/2022

QIC: Feathers

PAX (14): BallBoy, Birdie, Boomer, Dinghy, Feathers, HotSauce, Jetson, Popper, PuffDaddy, Scrooge, Splinter, Stickers, Sunshine, Zima

Preamble:

The gloom was welcomed by a smaller group than Monday, but a great group of hardcore HIM (and a rather ambitious scarab) assembled and were ready for whatever YHC threw at them.

Warm-O-Rama:

short mosey with karaokes, high knees, and butt kickers.  SSH, Weed Pickers, Imperial Walkers.

The Thang:

First Thang:

YHC introduced the PAX to a new concept that was previously Beta-tested at the Boneyard.

8 cones arranged in a circle with a radius of about 60 ft.  4 Standing cones represent the 15 min marks on a clock, and 4 more cones filled in the gaps to make sure the PAX respected the sanctity of the circle (in other words, no straight lining between the 4 primary cones)

Starting at the 12 o’clock position on the circle, PAX partner up and perform a board of pain, Dora-style.  One partner performs exercise while the second runs around the perimeter of the circle.  However, this Dora has a couple of twists:

  • When the runner returns to his partner, both partners must drop into a bear crawl and proceed to the next upright cone (next 15 min mark on the clock) before switching running/reps roles;
  • Partners can only progress to the next exercise when they are at the top of the hour, the 12 o’clock position – If they have not yet reached 12 o’clock, then the reps continue until they do.  If they have already passed 12 o’clock when they reach the prescribed number of reps, then they must continue through the hour until they again reach 12 o’clock.

Board of Pain:

  1. 50 Burpees
  2. 100 Merkins
  3. 200 LBCs
  4. 300 Squats
  5. 200 Shoulder taps (alpha initially, quickly modified to single)
  6. 100 T Bombs

2nd Thang

Q called the first Thang a bit early to give the PAX a needed 10 count, followed by a round of Captain Thor (1 Big Boy to 4 American Hammers) making it up to 9 Big Boys and 36 Am Hams (Initially alpha count, switched to single count at the ‘half-way’ point).

As is typical, YHC brought a really big speaker.  In honor of Ready Mix’s Athens heritage, a carefully-curated, near career-spanning REM playlist was provided:

Finest Worksong

Man on the Moon

Superman

What’s The Frequency, Kenneth?

Texarkana

Begin the Begin

Radio Free Europe

Orange Crush

(Don’t Go Back to) Rockville

Everybody Hurts

COT:

Our continued focus is on Ready Mix and his family, and our commitment to carry each other through this season and beyond.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

When the day is long
And the night is yours alone
When you’re sure you’ve had enough of this life, well hang on

Sometimes everything is wrong…
When your day is night alone
If you feel like letting go
If you think you’ve had too much of this life, well hang on

‘Cause everybody hurts
Take comfort in your friends
And everybody hurts… Sometimes
