A different kind of coupon

AO: The Gladiator

When: 09/08/2020

QIC: Speedo

PAX (8): Scratch-off, Spandex, Brownie, Kegger, DefCon2, Zohan, Tebow, Speedo

Preamble:

Inspired by some recent beat downs led by others (especially Zohan), YHC wanted to create an always-moving workout that incorporated some teamwork.  I intentionally delayed the beat down planning until the week 2 IPC feature-length film was released on Sunday so as to avoid the primary muscle groups that workout would require.  An idea came into my head and I was able to use my crayons and safety scissors to create the workout.

Warm-O-Rama:

After the disclaimer, we moseyed to the parking lot toward the front of the park (or is that the back of the park?) and then realized the workout needs to begin with a demonstration of sorts so we moseyed back to where we started.  A late-arriving car pulled through and we were all guessing who it could be but it turned out to be a woman driving through and she hurriedly moved on when she saw us running.  Warm-up included:

  • SSH x 15
  • Weed Pickers x10
  • Hillbillies x10

The Q then explained the workout and we were off. For the record, it’s much easier to verbally explain than to type out the workout.

The Thang:

In each of the two fields were five cones;  Four cones in the corners of one end of each field and one cone in the center of each field, each with a piece of paper with an exercise on it and, at the bottom of each piece YHC had made 11 vertical cuts (resulting in 12 strips of paper), similar to the advertisements you see (or used to see) on college campus bulletin boards advertising something for sale or service of some sort. YHC instructed PAX they could do two exercises on a field before having to move to the other field.  At each stop, PAX would tear off one of the ‘coupons’ at the bottom of the sheet and then do that exercise.  The goal was to complete 12 sets of each of the following 50-count exercises before time was called.

  • American Hammers (alpha count)
  • Mountain Climbers (alpha count)
  • Flutter Kicks (alpha count)
  • Merkins
  • Shoulder Taps (alpha count)
  • Peter Parkers (alpha count)
  • BBSUs
  • LBCs
  • Runs from mid-field around the parking lot where the flag is and back – did a total of 16 of these

Toward the end, the PAX did a great job of communicating where the remaining exercises were and made sure we finished everything. The total rep count was 4,800 plus 16 runs divided up among 8 PAX.

On the way back to the flag we found a bonus cone that just happened to have 8 ‘coupons’, each of them good for 25 burpees.  We knocked those out and then finished with some mary including:

  • American Hammers
  • Dying Cockroach
  • Mountain Climbers
  • Merkins

COT:

Praises for DC2 brother on the mend after scary bike crash last week.  Prayers for Brownie’s brother as he goes through some tough stuff this week.

Zohan invited any/all to join us on Saturdays for the Widowmaker at Webb Bridge Park.  Pre-ruck at 0600 and beat down 0700-0800.  We realize Saturdays are family-focused for many and totally understand that.  Just know you are always welcome.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

It’s always a pleasure to take a Q and I always appreciate when I see the headlights rolling into the park ITG.  Thanks for posting and helping me get stronger this morning.
