Each January since 2020, the Hooch PAX have melted off the holiday pounds with a tough beatdown inspired by Led Zeppelin, the band many including YHC argue is the GOAT. The Slack preblast elicited a spirited debate from the Hooch PAX on the appropriate content of the beatdown soundtrack. So many excellent tracks to select from – what a great problem to have! With this morning marking the third annual installment of this beatdown, the natural choice was Led Zeppelin III, in order cover-to-cover. This gem of an album features a couple tremendously successful radio hits plus rich, folk-influenced deep tracks that are easy to overlook among the band’s more popular blues- and hard rock-inspired catalogue.
Two pre-runners got some extra credit before the PAX circled up for the disclaimer. Mosey lap with high knees, butt kickers, and side shuffles, then circle up behind old Twisted Taco. Much thanks to Feathers for lending his ginormous speaker. Start Immigrant Song and continue with SSH, Weed Picker, Windmill, and forward/backward arm circles in cadence.
Thang 1: BLIMPS
(Because blimps = zeppelins, right?)
10 lunges each leg
15 imperial walkers
25 plank jacks
Rinse and repeat for a total of 3 cycles thru the list.
Thang 2: Bearway to Heaven
The worst entry in the F3 Exicon, IMO. Could easily be titled Bearway to Hell.
Start at starting line
Bearcrawl 2 parking spaces in length
Bearcrawl back to starting line
Rinse and repeat 6 more times, incrementing by 2 additional parking spaces in length and decrementing by 1 burpee each time.
Thang 3: Stairway to Seven
Short mosey to the hill bordering the parking lot.
Robert Plant up the hill to street level and back
At bottom: Grab a piece of curb and do 1 derkin and 1 irkin
At top: 1 jump squat
Repeat, incrementing reps at bottom and reps at top by 1 each time, until the final cycle sees 7 derkins & 7 irkins at the bottom, and 7 jump squats at the top.
Captain Thor (bc Immigrant Song’s nordic themes).
Round 1 is 1 BBS and 4-count Am-Ham’s.
Increment rep counts by 1 BBS and 4 Am-Ham’s each round.
Had enough time to squeeze in 9 total rounds.
Prayers for wisdom, bandwidth, and spiritual care when caring for aging parents going through struggles.
Prayers for those impacted by Covid, including those currently battling and the families of those who have lost loved ones.
Prayers for all of us to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit in our callings as servant leaders in our respective spheres.
YHC appreciates these Hooch PAX posting for what they knew would be a slobber-knocker. Let’s continue to intentionally challenge ourselves and each other to grow stronger physically and mentally all year. Always an honor to lead these PAX in the gloom.
