Preamble:

The two year anniversary of the Windjammer launch was approaching so YHC grabbed the Q and promised the PAX a jolly time.  Before we get to today’s workout, the backstory of the Windjammer goes something like this…. March 2020, Covid creeps into the burbs and the public parks shut down, which meant my normal stomping grounds were on a temporary halt.  I spent about a week running in the neighborhood solo and knew it was time to organize a beatdown. It was good timing because YHC had been plotting to open an AO at the new Windward Community Park and had already picked the name, the Windjammer.  However, YHC realized that the park was just a little too far from the lake overlook, so I decided to move the location about a mile down the road to the private Windward Lake Club, which worked well because the parks were all shut down at this time anyway.  A few days away from the Covid launch, YHC texted several prospects from the neighborhood and the surrounding area.  Some of the guys I had been working on for several years, but now that it was in their backyard, there was no way the would say no, right?.  Plus, we would start at 6:30am instead of the usual 5:30am F3 standard time.  Easy peasy, right?  A couple of soft commits later, YHC showed up on 3/30/20 all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed to an empty parking lot.  After a few minutes and several glances at my watch….6:30am struck.  Would I jump back in my car and head home?  Heck no.  Instead YHC created what would become the Windjammer merkin mile and a handful of other pain station exercises.   Two years later and a dozen or more FNG’s, the Windjammer now averages 10-12 guys per beatdown and serves a great need in the area.  But it also comes with its’ share of punchlines.  Because it is held a private club, mimosas and warm towels are often talked about.  Plus we have 2 anniversaries if you count the F3 official launch Sep 30 of 2020, so that is the source of a lot of jokes.  In fact, until we planted a flag and made it official, we did not give FNG’s names for the first 6 months.  Another funny tidbit is that YHC Q’d approximately 20 times in row!  Ok, enough with the history lesson, here is what went down.

Warm-O-Rama:

3 pre-runners and 3 pre-ruckers put in the early work, then 18 total PAX joined for the beatdown.  Welcome Christoper Robin from Charleston and a few other non-regulars from around the Alpha.  Head to the dam for SSH, Windmill & Imperial Walker.  On to our next spot.

The Thang:

Gather at the boat launch entrance for a circle Burp.  During recovery, YHC had the PAX recite the 5 core principles of F3.  Up next was the merkin mile up the hill stopping at each cross street for a variation of 10 merkins.  Once majority of PAX made it to the top, we turned around and did 10 squats at each stop on the way back down.  Next, we made it over to the sports park for balls to the wall.  45 seconds was the goal, 60 seconds for bonus.  Time running short, we headed over to the field for 1 more circle burp, then proceeded up the Dam Hill backwards… twice.  Now time running short, we made it back to the flag for 2 minutes of Mary.

COT:

Words of gratitude were spoken about how lucky we are to have the ability to do what we do.  The freedoms, liberties, health and physical abilities.  This group is such a blessing, let’s be mindful to give it away to others.  Prayers for safe travels for those leaving for spring break.  Announcements included a blood drive next week.  AND BIG ANNOUNCEMENT FRIDAY…. SITE Q PASS OFF, STAY TUNED!

Always an honor to lead, especially on the 2 year anniversary.
