AO: The Hooch

When: 12/05/2022

QIC: Popper

PAX (13): Animal, BallBoy, Birdie, Boomer, Maguire, McCracken, Meatball, Popper, PuffDaddy, Saint2O, Scrooge, Splinter, Sunshine

Preamble:

Sometimes YHC has the best moments of introspection while people watching in a huge crowd. The well-attended Winterfest, likely totalling 1-2 thousand attendees on the Perimeter Church lawn on Sunday, gave YHC a moment to himself to mentally inventory ideas for his Hooch Q the following morning. In YHC’s line of sight during this deep contemplation was the ~1/3 mile running loop around the bigger of the two ponds, starting from the outdoor chapel, over the bridge, through the woods, and back to the chapel. Thus was determined a pilgrimage to the outdoor chapel would be in order.

The morning greeted 1 PAX for a pre-run, 1 PAX for a pre-ruck, and 13 PAX for a Popper beatdown. YHC gave the five core principles of F3, the standard disclaimer, and off we went.

Warm-O-Rama:

Mosey past IronTribe on our way to the bakery parking lot, doing high knees and butt kickers along the way. Circle up for Side Straddle Hop, Weed Picker, Windmill, Hillbilly, and Fwd/Bwd Arm Circles IC.

Mosey towards the Perimeter Church chapel parking lot, doing side shuffles each direction, and capping off the mosey with about 30 yards of burpee broad jumps. Air chair for the 6.

Mosey down to the outdoor chapel.

The Thang:

Partner up.

Thang 1: Catch me if you can

  • Use the big pond loop described in the preamble
  • In clockwise direction, Partner 1 does Bernie Sanders
  • Partner 2 does five merkins, then moseys to catch Partner 1
  • Swap jobs, and repeat until one running loop is complete.
  • Watch your step, and watch for a random female runner going in the opposite direction.
  • Mumble chatter on the wisdom (or lack thereof) of running this thin, winding sidewalk backwards.
  • Plank for the 6 back at the chapel.

Thang 2: AMRAP loops

  • Partner 1 moseys the big pond loop
  • Partner 2 performs AMRAP of the prescribed exercise until Partner 1 returns, leveraging the outdoor chapel’s handy dandy wooden benches, an underutilized incline resource at The Hooch:
    • Exercise 1: 10 Derkins w/shoulder taps, 10 Irkins w/shoulder taps, R&R AMRAP
    • Exercise 2: 10 Bulgarian split squats per leg, R&R AMRAP
    • Exercise 3: Dirty handshake AMRAP, with an active rest of 10 SSH when the shoulders get a bit too smoked
  • Swap jobs when Partner 1 returns. After each round, collect the PAX and plank for the 6 before Q calls the next round’s exercise

Thang 3: The pilgrims return

  • Short mosey back uphill to the Chapel parking lot. Form two lines for an Indian Run back to the bakery. Mumble chatter on the proper speed of a slow mosey.
  • Lunge walk through the bakery parking lot. Mumble chatter nostalgically, acknowledging this ritual is not as frequent as it once was.
  • PAX line up shoulder-to-shoulder. Bernie Sanders 2 parking lanes, and perform 2 burpees. Rinse & repeat until returning to the flag.

Mary comprised LBCs and Box Cutters IC until time was called.

COT:

Several upcoming events:

  • Santa Ruck 12/10
  • Hooch/Boneyard bash 12/16
  • Scrooge eggnog beatdown 12/24

Prayers for YHC’s M, given his unfortunately high volume of holiday season work travel. Prayers to draw strength from the Lord to lead our families well.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

This morning offered the chance to use somewhat familiar surroundings in a somewhat unfamiliar way. The Hooch PAX had not used the outdoor chapel benches in a while (at least not on days YHC had posted), and the big pond running loop was a nice deviation from other loops we might choose more often. Variety is the spice of life as they say, and YHC was more than happy to be the test kitchen chef. As always, it’s a pleasure to lead men for whom I hold so much respect and admiration. Keep accelerating.
