Speedo Trio Part 3 – Easy as 1-2-

AO: Widowmaker

When: 08/13/2022

QIC: Speedo

PAX (13): Birdie, Cox, Funyun, NRA, Skip-pe, Speedo, TMI, TURK, Zohan, Wheels, Flash, Homie, Venus (Homie 2.0)

Preamble:

Finally back at the Widowmaker after vacation and last week’s convergence kept me away for 3-4 weeks.  Zohan and I both broke the law by coming in through the new exit-only ‘entrance’ to where we plant the flag. Alpharetta finally repainted the lot making it a one-way road but the pavement will still tear a hole in your shorts after about 5 big bois.

A nice pre-ruck was completed as we conquered the power line hill and had some great conversation.  Coming back into the park we noticed a large number of cars pouring in so we figured there was a baseball or soccer tournament.

Several pax and several 2.0s awaited us when we returned with enough time to catch our breath and reset our watches.  A brief disclaimer was given and we were off for a short mosey.

Warm-O-Rama:

Mosey to the coupon pile next to the cheese-grater parking lot (doesn’t that describe all the Webb Bridge parking lots?) where we circled up for:

  • SSH IC x15
  • Hillbillies IC x12
  • Weed pickers IC x12
  • Worlds Greatest Stretch OYO
  • Michael Phelps OYO

The Thang:

Pax were instructed to pick out a coupon they could curl a lot of times.  Then we moseyed down the Widowmaker and discovered where all the cars had been going.  Some high school was holding a cross country training session so everyone had parked down at the bottom of the WM when there are usually zero to two cars there.

A board of pain with three exercises awaited.  We partnered up and completed 100 cumulative reps of the following:

  • Coupon curls
  • Burpees
  • Merkins

P1 ran to the end of the guardrail while P2 did the exercise then they switched until all reps were completed.  As usual, we picked up the six by helping the last team to finish their merkins.  We then grabbed our coupons and headed up the hill a bit where the second board of pain had been placed, also with three exercises as follows:

  • V-ups with coupon (these are tough)
  • Thrusters with coupon (no squat)
  • Lunges with coupon (single count)

200 reps each!  P1 ran up to the manhole cover while P2 did the exercise then they switched.  Again, gazelles picked up the six until done.  It’s worth mentioning that during this whole time we had high school cross country runners going up and down the hill, seemingly without effort as we/I sucked wind just to get a couple of dozen yards up the hill.  One of the kids was Scar’s son who introduced himself as such…strong looking kid…go figure.

At some point in the morning, Birdie joined us after his BRR training run.  It was great to see him and appreciate him helping us finish things out.

Once done with the 2nd round it was clear we would not finish the third round which was to be 300 reps each of three different exercises.  But I’m no quitter so instead, we had just enough time to do 30 reps each of the following which got us to 300 total across the group:

  • Squats with coupon
  • American hammers with coupon
  • LBCs with or without coupon

Returned the coupons to almost the same place we got them and then Bernied back up the hill to the top.  Time was running out so we moseyed to the flag, taking the shortcut up the hill by the soccer pitch, which was uncharacteristically dry for some reason.

TMI demonstrated his Rockette-style kicks as he closed us out with some Toy Soldiers until time was called.

COT:

Lots of prayers and praises were lifted up including lost friends, relatives/friends getting to come home after long hospital stays, sick friends, and several others.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

This is the third day in a row I led a beat down.  I do it in honor of my oldest son who just turned 26 on Thursday.  He lives with a mental illness and works hard every day to do things many of us may take for granted.  This morning I tried to remind the guys that there are many among us who are battling mental illness.  Some you can kind of tell while many you cannot notice any outward signs at all.  It’s just a reminder that everyone has a story and they are not always fun or easy to talk about.  Be kind, smile at a stranger, help someone who is struggling, and look for ways to show love and kindness.  It’s what God calls us to do and because I know you guys do this in so many ways, it’s one of the many reasons that I love F3.
