Speedo Trio part 1

Preamble:

After a big showing on Tuesday for Zohan’s birthday beat down, only 8 pax were stretching and getting ready at about 5:10.  Then suddenly 6 more cars rolled in which got us up to 14.  Defcon2 rolled in without his shoes on so we of course patiently waited for him as the clock hit 5:15.

Warm-O-Rama:

Mosey without DC2 around the parking lot until he caught up with his.  Headed to the other side of the rec center for:

  • SSH IC x15
  • Weed pickers IC x12
  • Hillbillies IC x12
  • WGS OYO
  • Michael Phelps OYO

The Thang:

Head to the rec center wall for some Donkey Dans.  1:3 ratio of merkins and donkey kicks.  Merkins were done in cadence while donkey kicks were OYO.  We made it up to 6:18 (when my donkey kicks were barely leaving the ground).

Mosey to the zebra crossing on the hill for some Dora BLIMPS.  I tried to make them BLIMBS but was gently corrected on my spelling.  P1 did burpees while P2 ran up the hill to the yet-to-be-named street light on the left and back down then flap jack.  Repeat for Lunges, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, Plank Jacks and Squats. Monkey humpers for the six.

Since we didn’t get any BBSUs (the B I tried to put in BLIMBS) we did a quick regular Dora with 200 BBSUs with a run up the hill and back.

Mosey to the pitch for some fartleks.  Mosey 3 segments then sprint 1 segment (did this twice) then went to a 2+2 and finally a 1+3.  Poor instructions by YHC caused a little confusion but we got some running in for sure.

Mosey to the back of the flag parking lot for a trial run of a relay race idea.  Split into two groups about 10 parking spaces apart.  Each team planks on the same line with two water jugs (50 lb each) on the line in front of them.  When the music starts, first guy in each group jumps up and runs to the other end and grabs the jugs and brings them back then does 5 burpees.  Second guy then goes.  YHC will take some blame for poor explanation here.  Thanks for letting me experiment on you guys.   We’ll do this one again with some modifications for sure.

26 years ago today we welcomed our first son into the world.  It was on my 30 1/2 birthday.  Each year I use this time to honor my son and to bring a little more awareness to those living with mental illness and their families.  This morning I talked about how important it is to take care of our mental health.  But I cautioned the guys not to conflate mental health with mental illness.  We all have down days/periods in our lives.  We may have anxious moments and thoughts or just don’t know how to deal with something difficult.  These are generally normal events and will hopefully pass.  However, persistent bouts of anxiety, depression, paranoia, etc. may suggest something else is going on.  Seek help from a trained professional.  Don’t try to self-diagnose.  And know that you have me and a huge community of men around you who have your back and will hold you up whenever you need it.
