Celebrating History…and Humidity

AO: Windjammer

When: 07/20/2022

QIC: NRA

PAX (4): Caroline, False Start, Townie

Preamble:

July 20 is the anniversary of the moon landing in 1969. Beatdown inspired by the people and events of that day, though presumably there is slightly less humidity up there. The air here was a tad thick…

Warm-O-Rama:

Moseyed to the lake for SSHs, copperhead squats, weed pickers and some arm circles. Drenched by the end of the warm up.

The Thang:

PAX moseyed down to the pavilion at the sports park after a brief explanation of the date in history. Since the first person to walk on the moon was Neil ARMSTRONG…needed some exercises for strong arms.

Four different types of merkins (regular, diamond, staggered left, staggered right) followed by a lap around the parking lot. First was set of five each, then 10, then 15.

(As a welcome back gift, False Start was gifted with the burpee power, which he used judiciously…or something like that.)

Moseyed up to the boat launch for a reminder of the famous quote – “one small STEP for man, one giant leap for mankind…”

PAX completed 11s in the parking lot – step-ups on the picnic benches and “leaps” with the jump ropes, both real and imaginary.

Started the mosey back to the flag, but stopped at the benches along the way for some appropriate core work – sets of 69 American hammers or LBCs.

Completed the beat down with some Townie-led flutter kicks.

COT:

Reminder about the blood drive this week. All of the details are on the Slack channel.

Bring your dog (or just yourself) to the Widowmaker on Saturday for a special Stu-led beatdown.

Prayers for the family of Townie’s M’s former colleague, Rachel, who recently lost her battle with cancer.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

An apt quote for the day, but also relevant to the work that we do each day:

We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone…”
