QIC: Sprocket

PAX (11): Dosido, Groundhog, Ice-Tea, Lil Hurt, No-See-Um, Pinkey, Special K, TopHat, FNG's: (Greg Freeman) Gilligan, (JW Cannon) Skids

Preamble:

On the 20th anniversary of this solemn occasion, QIC wanted to not only commemorate the heroes and victims of 9/11/01, but, especially to honor the fallen NYFD firefighters that exemplified selflessness and genuine heroism.  As was strongly suggested, many PAX showed up wearing their rucks and weight vests with the min. 20# as suggested by QIC the day before (many thanks to No-See-Um for the idea). So, as the PAX circled up to begin the workout, QIC posed the question: “how many NYFD firefighters lost their lives on  9/11?” And, yes, our resident NY’er, Ice-T, had the correct answer: 343.

Warm-O-Rama:

welcome to the 2 FNG’s and disclaimer given, QIC lead the mosey to his pickup where each PAX his coupon (Ha-Ha’s gf’s) and then down to the field where all lined up in front of the bleachers.

COT:

QIC felt compelled to play our nation’s national anthem (cover courtesy of Boston) once all PAX were back at the shovel flag where we also named our FNG’s and QIC shared an account of one hero in particular from that fateful day in September 2001: Rick Rescorla.  Though 62 years of age and dying of terminal bone cancer, combat veteran, former police officer and Head of Security for Morgan Stanley in WTC Tower 1 saved 2,687 employees because of his preparedness, bravery and leadership.  He was last seen heading towards the 10th floor to search for more employees still trapped in the building.  Earlier that year, he remarked to a friend, “men like us aren’t supposed to go out this way [dying of cancer].  We’re supposed to die in some desperate battle performing great deeds.”  Indeed, he did.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

Those of us who remember where we were and what we were doing when we heard news of the attacks on our homeland have it etched in our lives forever.  We saw, heard and became aware of the worst of humanity that day.  But, thankfully, we also saw some of the best of humanity that day.  May the mental, spiritual and physical strength we’ve gained through F3 be used in the service of others now and whenever the opportunity presents itself in the future.  Always an honor to lead this group of brave men. Sprocket out.
