Drop it like it’s…..cold

AO: The Grindstone

When: 01/28/2019

QIC: Whiz

PAX (8): Bell, McDuff, Badger, Cookie, Olaf, Bartman, Scully, Whiz

Preamble:

8 PAX answered the call to start their week strong and grind out a sub-freezing beatdown this morning.  Once again, YHC had a couple of ideas but no solid plan heading off into the gloom.

Warm-O-Rama:

YHC decided to forego the obligatory SSH and change it up a bit this morning.  I think I’m going to see how long I can replace SSH with new/non-exicon warmup exercises…just because.

High knees in place x 20 IC

Sun Gods x 10 IC

Windmills x 15 IC

The Thang:

Mosey down to the darkside of the AO past the batting cages to the baseball field complex out back and partner up for some BOMBS.  Nothing fancy here other than the usual routine with each PAX running a backwards mosey up the incline walkway to the parking lot and running back down to the bottom during the flapjack.  This warmed us up quickly and turned out to add just the right amount of extra suck to the routine.  YHC was also reminded that I suck during this routine which made it all worthwhile.

Next, mosey back along the pathway to one of the pavilions for some quick benchwork.

Dips x 10 IC, step-ups x 20 IC, incline merkins x 15 IC – rinse-and-repeat

Too much time for mary but not enough for much else so I decided to combine the two with a full round of Captain Thor with the PAX.  Most were smoked by the end (including YHC) but it was a great way to push ourselves a little farther when we think we’re out of gas.

COT:

1st, 2nd, and 3rd F convergence opportunity hosted by the Cherokee boys this Saturday.  Several Alphamen signed-up and all were encouraged to attend.  Also prayers for a co-worker of Bell, whose wife was just diagnosed with brain cancer at age 34 with a 6 month old at home.  Prayers also for some friends of Cookie who just lost a 3 year old son.  Great to have Badger back with us after an extended absence while his M worked through the passing of her father.  Things are starting to get back to normal and we lifted him and his family up as well.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

As a parent of young shorties, the announcements particularly hit home for me this morning.  I have a tendency to lose perspective through life’s daily (and very minor) struggles and this was a good reminder to give my M and 2.0’s an extra squeeze and a genuine prayer of thanksgiving for the major blessings in my life.  May we all keep this perspective when things are going well so we don’t squander a single moment with our loved ones.
